Hi ladies, i have been wanting to write a post on foxy locks extensions for a very long time but when ever i get a new set i always forget to take pictures etc..
My past experience with hair extensions
First of all i want to tell you my little hair extension story. I first got into hair extensions at 16, growing up with natural long blonde hair was amazing but as i got older my blonde hair got darker and i started bleaching it, i also have curly hair and i started to straighten my hair CONSTANTLY through out the day i was addicted and back then straighteners were not as good as they are now so i felt like i had to keep doing it, they were those ones with the blue top and the huge plates, remember those? Anyway with the whole highlighting with bleach and burning my hair off with these horrible straighteners it became damaged like really damaged and my mum made me have the damaged hair cut so i could start again. Some how i managed to have Edward scissor hands for a hairdresser and she hacked my hair so short and made it look even worse, it was horrible i looked like those people out of Lego which made me keep straighting it over and over then put it up because it was so bad.
When i was 16 my friend at college had hair extensions and i was amazed how they looked and she had the same length hair as me and she looked great so i started searching for hair extensions, when i was 16 they weren't so common back then and the set i got was glowing yellow had about 2 strands of hair to a clip but i thought they were amazing, i wore them every day and when i look back i think how stupid i looked, you know those girls you see with the short hair then like two strands of extensions hanging...... yep that was me.
It wasn't until my mum told me i how bad i looked i decided to look around for new ones, luckily where i lived there seemed to be a new hair extension shop on every corner and i bought a set of 613 for £40 they were the best you could get at the time but they didn't last long, used to shred alot and the colour again didn't match to good but i tried to make it work, i also started to glue the weft to my head, whenever the extension started to fall out id whip my glue out no matter where it was and glue it back to my head Then after a couple of weeks id take them out and glue them back in, they were so hard to get out and i used to pick at the glue, i ended up with bald patches it wasn't a good look i never wanted to glue anything in my hair again.
After i got over gluing them in i tried a few clip in brands, all OK but again only carrying the lightest blonde in 613 and all OK but nothing great, i then got into tape extensions, they were really natural looking, a little bit tricky to put in and expensive as to get any thickness i needed loads of packs, then when they started to fall out, they would just fall out wherever they felt like it.
I then started watching Imogen on you tube in 2009 and as soon as i saw her hair i wanted to buy a set of foxy locks, she is so pretty and had amazing hair, and from what i understand Imogen is the founder of foxy locks and she seems to be very successful.
OK so onto the review, foxy locks offer 3 sets 120g, 160g and 215g since they bought out the 215g set that what i always go for because i like alot of hair but in previous years i dd ailways buy the 160 g and its more than enough hair. I bought the extension in the colour 60 light ash blonde, this isn't my colour, i knew this when i bought them but they had sold out of 90 platinum blonde and i need these extensions for a event at the weekend and before foxy locks offered platinum blonde i ordered 60 which is too yellow for my hair but with a bit of toning and purple shampoo they match, one thing i would say is NEVER bleach them, i did this once and it ruined them. This set is the 215g set with the volumizer and retails for £118.00, some might say that's alot of money for hair, but you get alot of hair and i don't mind paying that for a decent set of extensions. My hair is thin, and has is just below my collar bone, the 215g set comes with the standard 10 piece wefts 2 - 4clip wefts, 2 - 3 clip wefts, 2 - 2 clip wefts, 4 - 1 clip wefts and the 4 clip double wefted volumizer.
Packaging - When the post man brings me a pink parcel i know straight away its from Foxy locks extensions, they are in the normal plastic sleeve that alot of extensions come in and are attached to a piece of pink card bored which has the beautiful Imogen on the back, a bit of information and a care guide, The front has the foxy locks logo and what colour/ style you have received. I do really like the packaging its simple yet girly and has useful information on the back.
Quality of Hair - I cant fault the quality of foxy locks extensions, i 100% think they are the best extension on the market that i have tried and i have tried alot of brands, when you receive them they are so silky and the first thing i notice is the thickness and how shiny they are, alot of extensions have like a plastic fake looking type coating on them and i have to wash them over and over so they don't look so fake, these extensions are just shiny not plastic looking. Foxy locks are 100% Remy hair which mean all the cuticles are running in the same direction. Also with other extension i find alot of fall out, with these there is some shredding which is standard but its not major an unexpected from hair extensions.
Colour - Like i said previously i ordered 60 light ash blonde because platinum was out of stock, and this colour i find has slight ash tones but does still have that yellow hue, my hair is practically white so i do have to tone them but it doesn't take much to get them matching my hair. Imogen does a really good comparison on her you tube channel and the colour is true to life so if your thinking about buying them have a look, or you can email them and they will tell you whats the best colour for you
Thickness - Foxy locks biggest selling point to me is how thick the extensions are, 215g is alot of hair. When i look at the wefts on their own i can see through them and can look a little bit thin but when put together and clipped in the hair they are so thick and in no way thin.
Ends - For me the ends of extensions are really Important, as extensions have a tendency to look thick at the top and straggly and thin at the ends, now the only thing i can fault a litle is the ends, The weft is alot thicker at the top than the bottom, not really bad but when the wefts on its own i can see it, but when do you ever wear one weft? never, however when the extensions are clipped into the hair, it all looks the same thickness and the ends are really full.
Length - These extensions only come in one length and its 20inches, that for alot of people is too long, i go for 18-20 inches away so its not a issue but i do tend to cut about two inches off these. I could understand how this could be a issue to some people as it could end up like my Edward scissor hands issue but if you take them to the hairdressers they will usually cut them and blend them in for you but its better that their too long than too short.
Clips - The clips come already attached to the extensions, i have previously sowed them on extensions myself and its alot of hassle, the clips are metal clips which are light for blonde and dark for the darker hair. The clips have a silicone strip round them so when they are clipped into the hair their secure and don't slip and also don't damage the hair. One thing i have noticed is that on the volumiser the clips have one circle of thread and they come loose after time where on the other wefts theres three circles and they are more secure, i don't really know why that is?
The volumizer - What makes the 215g set different from the 160g set is this beaut the double wefted 4 clip weft, is it worth the extra £44??? ummmmm its hard to say, for me it makes a difference and they do look alot thicker and as i love big hair its perfect for me, but i think the 160g set is perfect on its own i just prefer to have that little extra volume. The only thing i find with this is the clips from past experience just on the volumizer set the clips tend to come loose and i have had to sew them back on, its not a big deal but I'm being 100% honest in this review, That aside i wish foxy locks sold this on its own, it would be amazing to have just a set of these hehehe.
After all that ramble i hope this helps some of you if your thinking of buying extensions, in a nut shell i personally think they are the best extensions on the market especially if your a blonde, blonde extensions are hard to get a decent colour but foxy locks sells two of the lightest blonde's out there 60 and 90. You can buy foxy locks from www.foxylocksextensions.com and to see Imogen's tutorials and the colours etc watch her you tube here. Below i have put some pictures of me wearing my foxy locks in the past.
Have you tried foxy locks?
